At Selwyn Kindergarten we provide open ended opportunities to encourage spontaneous play and creativity. Our tamariki often create their own games to add richness to their enjoyment of life, playing tag, or duck, duck, goose to develop and explore social concepts, rules and understandings in social contexts with familiar adults and peers.
Spontaneous play is valued as meaningful learning. By playing, imagining, inventing and experimenting, tamariki develop confidence. With positive guidance tamariki learn how to interact with peers appropriately and confidently. For example, waiting for turns and following rules, being alert and paying attention, choosing friends, collaborating, and sharing interests with others.
