At Laughton Kindergarten ng膩 tamariki were given the opportunity to learn a little about how a sewing machine works and what we can use it for.
After choosing from the large fabric pile we got busy stitching together little treasure bags for each individual tamaiti. We practiced our fine motor skills by carefully stepping on the foot pedal under the table to feed the fabric through the presser-foot. This was a great test for reaction times as ng膩 tamariki practiced how to go, slow down and stop when instructed.
This learning experience prompted many conversations about how we can incorporate sewing into our future creations. Ng膩 tamariki are already drawing plans to create some puppet characters with the sewing machine.
